Tyra Mills
Tyra Mills, MPH, is a public health data professional specializing in data analytics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, and curriculum development. She currently serves as a Newborn Screening Follow-Up Biostatistician for the Virginia Department of Health and as an Adjunct Professor of Public Health at Elmhurst University, where she teaches and develops coursework that strengthens foundational public health skills for emerging professionals.
Her technical expertise has been shaped by rigorous training with nationally recognized public health organizations, equipping her with profound experience in newborn screening data systems, rare disease surveillance, and public health informatics. Tyra’s work focuses on transforming complex data into actionable insights that improve program performance and support evidence-based decision making.
Building on this foundation, Tyra collaborates with Amy Gaviglio, MS, CGC, whose leadership in genomics, rare diseases, public health policy, and advocacy complements Tyra’s data-focused skill set. Together, they integrate analytical, educational, and policy expertise to help organizations strengthen newborn screening systems, enhance rare disease pathways, and advance public health outcomes. Their shared commitment is to promote equity, reinforce public health capacity, and prepare the next generation of professionals through accessible, evidence-based education and innovative, sustainable solutions.
